Don't Tell My Husband...

He was right. Sometimes he knows me better than I know myself. It was Christmas about five years ago. He was so excited to give me my present that year. I knew it was something big because I wasn't allowed to go into the garage for days. The kids could not stop talking about the big gift dad bought for mom. Lord. What was this going to be?

I can't make this up. He got me the oldest, squeakiest pottery wheel I had ever seen. He heard me talk about my high school ceramics class and wanted me to have the chance to have something for myself. With two kids. And a very demanding job. Right.

It was sweet but there was no way I could even use this thing. I didn't have a place to work, a nearby water source, or even clay. Not to mention it was going to fall apart at the slightest movement. I graciously thanked him for his thoughtful gift. On top of it all, he gave me a certificate for pottery classes. This was completely out of my comfort zone but I thought, why not? I signed up for the next session.

I quickly fell in love. It wasn't long until I had convinced him to let me set up my own home studio. And to sell the antique kick-wheel he bought for me and purchase a new one ;)

Now I have my thing. I have a place to escape and create and focus on my own self-care.

I like to share this story with other moms. We don't take time for ourselves. All too often we live our lives for our children and families and forget who we are.

Five short years later for Christmas, my husband bought me this website domain and we called it Raysofhopestudio.com after my three favorite people; my husband Aaron Ray, my son Aiden Ray, and my daughter Ryanne Hope. He believed I could, and I did.

After all, he was right all along.
